Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, full body treatment that relaxes the nervous system and aids the body’s immune system. Manual lymphatic drainage is used to stimulate circulation through the lymph vessels and ducts around the body. Lymphatic massage can assist to reduce swelling, used as an addition to RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for post exercise or post injury, or to prepare tissue for surgical incision (pre and post).
Specialised Treatment Techniques
Trigger Point Therapy is used to release muscle tension and facilitate muscle function. Trigger points are sensitive areas of tight muscle fibres that form in your muscles, typically from overuse or injury. This therapy helps your muscles to activate properly, can increase function and range of motion.
Dry Needling is the insertion of fine filament needles into the region of a trigger point to decrease muscle tension and pain.
Joint Mobilisation is used along with massage and stretching to create space and length around the joint and surrounding muscle tissue to increase range of motion.
Muscle Stretching Techniques are passive (aided) stretching techniques aimed to increase elasticity and flexibility by lengthening, contracting and normalising joint motion. Techniques include Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching.
Myofascial cupping is the application of decompressed cups to soft tissue. The cups create a vacuum effect that lifts the underlying fascia, muscle and blood towards to the skins surface. Myofascial cupping can be applied in a gliding motion over the surface of the skin or left stationary over trigger points to reduce muscle fibre adhesion.
